Chapter six

1. Polls:  http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/pollingcenter/
Is American news media too dependent upon polls?  Is it appropriate for news agencies to create polls and then report on them?  Why or why not?

I think the journalism industry has become a little too reliant on polls. What ever happen to good old fashioned journalism where you get out there and ask people their opinions face to face? The news industry is not what it used to be. It is ok for them to use polls and report on them because it is not really hurting anyone, I just think they should not rely on them as much as they do.

2. How important is political party identification to you (e.g. as a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, etc.)?  Was it more or less important to your parents & grandparents?  Does it seem more or less important to your friends?  Why or why not?

Political party identification is not the important to me I choose who I vote for on whether I agree with them at the time I do not let labels like parties get in the way. My parents and grandparents had the same reasoning about political parties so I guess they had some influence on me. I do have friends that think its important because they see it as certain political parties care about certain issues and that's what they care about too. I obviously do not agree so to each their own.

3. Do you feel that you opinion of politics is more influenced by economic issues or by social issues?  Why?

When it comes to social and economic issues I equally care about both because both are important, both effect someone somewhere in  the U.S. so that makes it important. There are some issues on both sides that I think are a waste of time, but I think everyone feels that way about some things.

  1. One of the problems I see with do face to face interviews anymore is that no one wants to do them. We have to keep up with technology. It's more conveinent to do polls on the internet. After all, that's where most of the polls come from nowadays.

  2. I agree when it comes to the media! Journalism has boiled down to statistics found on a computer, not by asking people and hunting the story like they used to. And I too agree with how both social and economics playa big role in how politics are looked at!

  3. Miss Rachel, I agree with your answer on question number 3. I think lots issues are important, and like you I think some are a total waste of time. I pay attention to issues that mostly affect my life and how I choose to live and who I choose to associate with. Economic issues seem to be at the forefront of everyone's mind in this day and time since the collapse of the economy in 2008. I think both economic and social issues are of pretty much equal importance.

  4. I do agree that both social and economic issues are important and I see what you mean by your response, but I think now the economic issues may be more pressing for attention.

  5. I completly agree with you on political identification. I dont think it matters one bit what party, it should only matter on what I feel about that certain individual and what they are saying during election time.

  6. I agree that the American media is a little too dependent on polls. I also agree that news is not what it used to be any longer. But I do not think that the American media needs to use some polls that they currently do. Honestly, the American media just uses the polls too much and if they are not careful they will report wrong information.

  7. I completely agree with on political party identification I do not care what party a candidate is for I would rather choose someone based on what they stand for and which person I like the best on what they are going to do for the country and the people in general.
